McMinnville Chess Club is for all ages and skill levels, and our members and guests enjoy free, open play events, rated and unrated tournaments, resources and opportunities for chess study and lessons, and the nicest chess club members you’ll ever meet in town.

We meet regularly at a variety of venues around town.
We have a Chess.com hangout with dozens of active members. To join us, come to a club meeting and ask to be added by an organizer.
Approved players are welcome to join our hangout to play and get to know our regulars before becoming a member. Please note our Principles of Club Etiquette apply both online and at our in-person events.

This game is one of the most famous in chess history and is often used to teach key concepts like piece development and the value of making clever sacrifices. It was played in an opera house in Paris in 1858 while an opera was performed on stage!

Fair play among friends is ensured by practicing the following principles of club etiquette.
Touch move
Use touch-move, so this practice becomes second nature with your play.
Good sportsmanship
Always display good sportsmanship. Congratulate your opponent when your game is over.
Spectating
Refrain from commenting on games in progress.
Asking for help
Disputes can be cordially resolved with assistance from experienced club members.
Cleanliness
Keep your pieces and board clean while eating during play.
Hygiene
Cover your face if you sneeze or cough, and don’t attend club events if you are sick.
